TROON GOLF COMMITS TO “GREEN” GOLF

Troon Golf will bring a new meaning to the term “green” in golf, after announcing its plan to make all its courses under management in Australia carbon neutral. Troon Golf Australia has signed an agreement with Environmental Business Solutions to use their e-Par environmental management software to manage its interactions with the environment.

The company will be the first in the world to undertake a comprehensive study on the level of carbon emitted by golf courses. This case study will be used as an environmental benchmark on a global level. Troon Golf Australasia Senior Vice President and Managing Director Kurt Michelsen said the environment was a corporate priority for the organisation and the company would introduce a range of initiatives to ensure it was embracing the green movement. “In our business we are in direct contact with the environment so we are committed to its long-term protection,” said Mr Michelsen.

“Troon Golf is taking the leading position on this and a lot of the praise must go to our Director of Agronomy David Lunardelli for driving this initiative,” he said. Troon Golf Australia Director of Agronomy David Lunardelli said the long-term goal of the e-Par initiative was to ensure all Troon courses embrace world’s best-practice and demonstrate environmental excellence to make all Troon Golf managed courses across the world carbon neutral.

“It is our aim to make Troon Golf courses the most environmentally-friendly in the world,” Mr Lunardelli  said.

“Studying the level of carbon emitted by a golf course through robust environmental management systems has never been done before. We are pleased to be a pioneer in this field and hopefully the results of our study will generate environmental benefits for golf courses across the world.
“Apart from measuring the carbon emitted, we will closely monitor and report on other environmental aspects including water management, fertilizer consumption and flora and fauna management. “Troon Golf is well known for its commitment to providing the very best golfing experience. Now we are going one step further to deliver the best possible environmental experience as well,” he said. Troon Golf is the recognised leader in prestige golf course management, development and marketing around the world. The company currently manages 185 golf courses in 23 countries including the USA, Scotland, Japan, Mexico and the Bahamas.
